Subject:RE: What to name a series of fields: a puzzle From:Dannette Thompson <dthomps -at- foundationsoft -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Wed, 1 Aug 2001 10:29:39 -0400
It's a technical term, but "leading" (pronounced ledding) is the term which
describes white space between lines of text. (It's a holdover from old
typesetting days when blocks of lead were placed between the text blocks.)
You could also try "vertical spacer" if you want something a little less
foreign.

Hi folks,
I was just asked by someone in Development what to label a series of fields
on the program interface that let you create optional spaces on an invoice,
and I was at a loss. Maybe you have some good ideas.
The software has a wizard that lets you design your own invoice. On this
particular screen, you can list the various engagements that you bill in a
vertical column, like so.
<<Name of engagement>>
bookkeeping
client blah blah
<<Name of engagement>>
auditing
client so-and so
<<Name of engagement>>
tax return
client such-and-such
Each engagement and its description represents a block of text. Between each
block of text, there is a space. You can set the amount of space between
each engagement, and there is a field for each space in which you enter the
size (in inches) of the space. But the developer doesn't know what to label
these fields. Right now, he's calling it "First Spacing" and the rest of the
fields "Other spacing," but that's not very specific. Is there a term we can
use for the space between the text blocks other than "spacing?"
