Corporate integrity is a pipe dream. It can't be achieved. People are
people. Policies change. Budgets freeze. Layoffs happen. Duties get
reassigned/piled up. People get underpaid. People get over-recognized. In
the end, everyone working for the company gets a pay check and the cycle
repeats itself the following week.
I can't stress enough that just because something "bad" happens to you, it
doesn't mean that you are being targeted or deserve to AUTOMATICALLY
retaliate. Bad things happen. You have two choices when they happen: let
them happen to you, or fight them. Likewise, you have two choices within
these two choices: you can be graceful in your action, or you can be a
tactless buffoon. No matter which initial action you choose (let it happen
or fight), if you're a buffoon, you're going to make the situation worse.
So my advice, again, to the person with the dilemma:
Talk to your boss. Find out the facts. Rationally process all this
information. Gracefully act accordingly.
