So what do you get with a salary increase? You get a salary history that
heads higher and higher. What do you get for taking on more
responsibilities? You get a job title. You can make the salary jump with the
job title alone. And, the job title really doesn't cost your company
anything except another set of business cards. Get the job title. Wait for
the money.

If they give you the job title, then economic conditions probably kept them
from giving you the raise. If they give you the job title keep the job long
enough for the job title to matter. Then, when the time comes recruiters
will work with you to get you the money you want for that job title. Without
the job title recruiters can't help you. They can only get you a job if
you've already done that job. Get the job title.
