An effective but indirect solution to this violence, is to promote a zero-tolerance policy for workplace violence.
My experience is that it won't actually be used against executives, but you can hope. What such a strategy will do is make the manager's rage "actionable"!

It's a rotten situation. I've been there myself and it won't do anything but get worse. Abusers have profiles too though, so at least if you pay attention, you could screen future disasters out. They routinely isolate, denigrate, abuse, accuse, and apologize.
