I'm a mid-level tech writer, and at least in Chicago, it's tough.
Although
there are lots of postions, it's a lot of contract firms after the same
few
positions and companies that choose to "reevaluate their documentation
needs" as
soon as they post the job. I've talked to quite a few places that
either had
the money for the writers taken aways before they could hire. Darn that
stock
market and all those IPOs everyone thought were so cool two years ago.
