I spent a while some years back teaching English overeseas, but have been back
in Canada doing various computer-related things -- mostly tech writing -- for
many years.

One thing that had been keeping me here is changing. The ex is off to Mexico
to teach English and the kid will be going with her, so I find myself thinking
about travelling myself.

Anyone got leads on jobs in Japan? Computer-related technical writing or
editing -- especially anything related to security, cryptography or Open
Source software -- preferred. I might also consider teaching specialised
technical English, but only if teaching paid much better than writing.

Also, has anyone got information on the relative merits and costs of
Japanese cities? I've heard Tokyo is expensive, crowded and polluted,
almost anywhere else better. Is this accurate? What cities are good?

Replies that will be of general interest could go to the list; others
can come straight to me and I'll summarise.
