I once was salaried and received paid overtime. I was expected to work 40 or more hours a week. My paid overtime kicked in at 45 hours. (Anything between 40 and 45 hours was considered to be a normal thing for a salaried worker to do and unpaid.) I was paid my regular overtime rate for overtime. The hourly people who worked with me were paid on a sliding scale: $X for up to 10 hours/week $X for over 10 hours/week, plus working holidays, etc. I worked a lot of overtime and felt fortunate to be paid for it. At this job there were no bonuses or profit sharing, so I can't help you with that.

California is one of the states that spells out in detail how you will be paid.

Definitely not. Both are extras by definition. Profit sharing, bonuses and salary might be combined when speaking of a compensation package, but that's different.

It's common in my experience for an employment contract to assume a certain number of hours per week. In some jurisdictions, too, that number of hours is defined by law. But, in my experience, it's 40, not 45 hours (obviously, the definition is widely ignored).

You might want to check if there is any legal definition in your area; your employer might be trying to delay when over-time kicks in.
