I think you're the first to mention this subject on the list. I've been following it on various Linux sites. These sites have given coverage that the mainstream media has ignored. Just as importantly, they haven't simply repeated the official version of the story, which is rather misleading.

Besides the copyright issues, one of the reasons why this story should be of concern to list members is that the programmer who was arrested was simply an employee of a company who wrote decryption software. Apparently, he didn't even work directly on the software that lead to his arrest, although he did provide the theoretical basis for it. So, in some circumstances, you can apparently be held liable for anything the company you for does, regardless of whether you were involved.
