I suppose we fall into the smaller company category (~200 people).
Though we don't have software police checking our computers
monthly, management stresses that we run only licensed software
on our computers. I am fortunate that if I really need a tool to get
my job done, it will be purchased.
Part of our business is developing software to support our
dataloggers, so I suppose we are more sensitive than some
companies might be to pirating issues. Some of our
basic/beginning user software is offered for free on our web site, but
we charge for our more "full featured" software. It is interesting,
however, the idea that persists that software doesn't cost a
company anything. Maybe this apathy wouldn't exist if consumers
could understand the full effects of piracy (or would choose not to
turn the proverbial "blind eye").
