Jennifer asked for great examples of online help.

A good place to start is with the winners of the STC
online documentation competition. Some, but not all,
of the winners are available on the web.

To find help examples, both good and bad:

On the web
Go to HotBot.
Click Advanced Search.
Enter "help" in the Word Filter text field.
In "Pages Must Include", enter the file extension ".chm".
Enable word stemming.
Click Search.

On your PC
Use Start>Find and search for ".chm".

Here are some help systems that stand out for their origninality:

Autocad LT

1999 STC International Online Competition Best of Show and other awards.
Download from http://www.cadstudio.cz/ftp.htm
CAD Studio - CAD files and utilities - download

Dell Inspiron 7000

Download from http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/systems/pcyc/docs.htm

eAuthor Tutorial

Download from http://www.hyperact.com/eAuthorHelp.html

Finally, some help systems I've worked on are at:
