Susan,
We have a set of custom macros that we use to convert Word to HTML. They
were written to avoid the problems inherent in Word (problems with nested
lists, broken autonumbering, etc.) and to give us "clean" HTML. It does
require that the original document be written using a specific template, but
that's the only drawback (so far.)
I've also done as Geoff suggested, and output using Word 2000's HTML filter,
and then used DreamWeaver to "clean up" the output. This results in amusing
"clean-up" messages, such as one I saw yesterday:
That's a lot of unnecessary HTML overhead in a single doc.

Subject: Word to HTML?
Hey Gang,
I used to use HTML Transit to generate large HTML projects from Word,
but a few years ago they priced themselves out of my reach. I can't
even find a current price on their Web site, which leads me to believe
they haven't come back down to earth.
New job, same problem, now I need to find a new HTML generator (and,
yes, I know about Frame and WebWorks, thank you. Let's not go there.)
;-)
Is anyone using Word to Web from SolutionSoft? How do you rate it?
Anybody else got a better solution? Please let me know!
