Hannah,
You are correct in expecting to need additional software to use Authorware.
Here is a basic list, based on your description of the demo CD.
(Note: I am only listing brand names to help better describe
the product type.)
* Graphics editor (Photoshop, etc.)
* Screen recorder (Hypercam, etc.)
* Digital audio editing (SoundForge, etc.)
* Digital video editing (Premiere, etc.)

If there is any way to outsource some of these I would recommend it because
each is a skill set in and of itself. Programming in Authorware, as you are
probably figuring out requires full time effort.

On another note.

Sounds like Authorware is more than what you need. It's more for creating
computer/web based training. Director, another Macromedia product, is more
for creating demos. It's also about $1,500 cheaper. You can download trial
versions at macromedia.com.

There are a lot of websites out there that relate to Director, but one that
I like is mediamacros.com

Two things to be aware of with his recommended route.
* Director has a very different interface from Authorware, and the
output files are not compatible even though they are made by the same
company. This means you wont be able to build a project in Director and then
switch it to Authorware without rebuilding the entire project.
* Authorware has a ton of tracking capabilities not found in Director.
At present, your situation sounds like it doesn't require tracking, but that
could change very quickly.

Thanks,
