I use Camtasia from Techsmith, the same people who make SnagIt. I've
included those AVI files not only into web pages, but into Help
applications where the person can watch the process being performed,
along with visual comments and also audio. Along with a 7 step
description, the user could click a button and watch the feature
being run.

I also use it to document error messages or crashes. As long as I can
reproduce the problem, I launch a Camtasia session (I load it on
Startup), run through the steps leading to the problem, resulting in
the error message. Now, instead of them trying to duplicate the steps
from my description, they sit back and watch it happen right before
their eyes.

On a lark, I did an AVI for a help where I recorded a short (about 10
seconds) welcome message, with a run button, from the CEO on the
"About [Application]" help page.

It was kinda silly, but I gained LOTS of points in his book.
