Well, I'll probably change their perspective when I start automating some of
the weekly/monthly website updates by using Perl. I mean, why put up with
the bother of doing routine things when you can program a computer to do it?
If a monkey can do it, I don't see why I have to.

Probably because, in the geek hierarchy, network admin is considered
high-status, while any programming job is considered superior to a
non-programming job.
