I solved the PDF-in-browser-failure problem by simply not trying. Whenever
I see a PDF link I just right-click and download it to a temp file on my
desktop and then open it in Acrobat Reader. It takes a couple of extra
clicks but it never fails. To me it's a matter of using the right tool for
the job.
