TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Well, I hope you're not looking for an automated process, because I can't
help you there. However, what I'd do is select everything that I do not want
transparent and then cut and paste it into a new image with a transparent
background and save it as a GIF. A more efficient route would be to use the
Magic Wand tool to select the background, then use the (I think) Inverse
command on the Select menu to reverse the selection, thereby highlighting
everything but the background. Then cut and paste as above. Not exactly
graceful, and not recommended if you've got a ton of images, but there you
go.
Alternately, I believe there's a way to save a GIF and specify that a
particular colour should be converted to transparent, but I forget how to do
that. Hope that helps. Thanks. DB.
