Jane,

You're right, that does seem awkward. How about saying that you shouldn't
transfer more than about 10K of information at a time? You could add the
information about the download times to clarify the point: "Over 2G
networks, transferring even 50K of
data can take 40 seconds - a noticeable amount of time for you to sit
watching your mobile phone."
