Ah, Robin - you need to read "Shrink Lits" - the 1-page version, in verse
yet, of much of the world's literature.

To answer your question, I find that reading technical stuff, especially
specs, where I have to retain the details of what I read (and remember where
I read them), slows me down considerably in all my other reading.

I still read everything in sight, and I still want to edit it, but ALL my
reading is slower. Great retention, though, whether I want it or not.
