Don't be disgruntled. We have a similar process here.
Our senior admin assistant reviews the manuals. But,
seeing as she has no real product knowledge, she acts
more as a grammarian, which is helpful. She's been
catching mistyled words that the spell checker ignores
("if" instead of "it", for example). She also flags
sentences that don't make logical sense.

It helps having a detached individual read the
manuals, as this person is approaching them as a new
user would.
