Well,here is the grim picture from India. I have been laid off more than a few times in my 23 year career as a ad writer, but in the three years I worked for three IT companies, I have been laid off twice.

Last year, the company decided to close down its domestic (Indian website and development) operations and retrenched over 270 employees in three months. As the axe fell biweekly on a section and division, we feared the worst. Eventually I was among the last three to be handed out the pinkies.

This month I went on the street. The reason was that the dollar remittances from the US Head Office stopped last month.I was vaguely aware of this from office gossip and as the emails for work slowed from July, staggered fitfully and finally stopped last month. This time the layoff was for all of us on the same day.

These days, whenever I apply for the elusie techwriter positions,I get the replies faster than I mail them.
As times go...
