Good afternoon,

I've had the opportunity to write for "both sides of the fence" in your
discussion. And I will bet I am not alone. Marketing and technical writing
can be as similar or dissimilar as you make it. In a small business, the
economy, or with limited budgets, writers are performing all types of tasks
just to stay employed. IMHO I think you should try to sit down with this
person and try to come to some kind of consensus and "documentation style"
trust with each other. Cohesive fonts, colors, some writing styles, and
layouts incorporating parts of your two departments benefits you both in the
long run.

Your VP's "marketing" techniques help procure initial product sales, thus
keeping some level of job security for everyone. You are just as important
enhancing product "aftersell" with your excellent technical documentation.
Sit down with him or her and be open. You both could learn something from
each other. Trying a new writing skill looks great on a resume! Good luck.
