Exactly! When the Information Development department was axed, the remaining
writers were assigned to software development teams. Now the writers get
together 2x a month and discuss style standards, Frame and Acrobat problems,
and specific issues someone might bring to the table.
It gives us a chance to blow off steam and get ideas and support from each
other. We've organized training for ourselves, set up a web site for sharing
standards and tips, and even gotten one of the bosses to cough up some $$$
for us to go out for a nice afternoon at a local restaurant.
It can work Julie. You're still mourning the loss of your teammates - but
they are still there! Get cracking on setting up time to talk to each other.
One caveat: set an agenda, or it can turn into just another bitch session.
Bring specific problems to the table, and ask for concrete solutions.
Work with a purpose can be a soothing balm. Let this task focus your
energies and you'll be taking ownership of every document in sight.
