Sure, but the wild pitch should be appropriate for the job. If you're interviewing as a tech writer (and I realize the original poster was not), you would expect the interview to test the skills you'd need as a writer, not as a public speaker (unless, of course, public speaking was part of the job).

I'm puzzled by the need to know exactly what to expect at an interview. So
they throw a wild pitch at you - so what? That's going to happen on the
job, too.

Somebody will walk in one day and say "you know that manual we need from
you next month? Well, we need it this week." Do you tell them you simply
won't put up with that sort of thing? Or do you look for a solution?
