Well, I'm half-convinced that I got my first tech-writing job because of my lucky petroglyph paperweight, but, deep down, I suspect that more effective job search techniques had more to do with it. Either that, or the nifty new fonts I added to my resume :-)

Seriously, your post did remind me of another case in which a degree might be useful on a card. Many medical and biotechnical companies specify a writer with a science degree, preferably in biology, so if you're specializing in these areas, then mentioning your degree might be useful..
