Professional communication and scientific tradition

Hello everyone: Please excuse me if this issue has been discussed in the
past; I'm a newbie.
Lately I've been reading a lot of journal articles which argue that
professional and technical communication is heavily--if not
exclusively--shaped by the scientific tradition. In other words, the
replicability, predictability, testability of scientific inquiry can be
seen clearly in professional communication practices (style guides often
are cited as an example).
While these articles are interesting, they are all written by
academics. To "round out" my understanding of this topic, I now am looking
for articles that have been written by practitioners. If anyone has a
suggestion about a "must-read" and could email me off-list, I'd GREATLY
appreciate it!
