Why the tech writing field? You've given lots of information about
what you don't know and what you do know. What you don't give is what
you've been exposed to that says "I'd enjoy being a technical
writer"?

What makes you think that the profession of technical writing is for
you (other than what you've heard about rates and salary)?

I'm not attempting to be antagonistic...it seems that before you
devote time and resources to a field, that you know something about
the field.
