Hello all,
Just catching up on my reading before the U.S. holiday...
In addition to the recommendations and advice already dispensed by other Techwr-L'ers, here are some helpful links that I keep bookmarked (some of which were recommended by others on this list):
Tech Encyclopedia - Find definitions related to technology
Jakob Nielsen's Usability site - Often debated on Techwr-L but worth checking out
The Technical Editor's Eyrie Newsletter - Maintained by our own Jean Hollis Weber
For Tech Writers and Trainers - Improved since last time I looked at it; worth a look
Human Factors International - Usability stuff
Gordon and Gordon - Lots of useful stuff for TW's; maintained by our own Gordon Graham
STC Conference Materials - Some interesting topics
Web Design for Instruction - I bookmarked this, but haven't looked at it in a while
White Papers on Many Subjects - Helpful overviews of technical items
(OT) Jump the Shark - OK, that one's for entertainment only (not TW), but it's fun <g>
Keep reading this list for more ideas on topics, tools, and technologies for a good mix of information. Also, you might want to investigate the various types of tech writing until you find what you enjoy most (i.e., software, hardware, medical, government, etc.). Good luck!
BTW, just before our U.S. Thanksgiving holiday, I'm thankful for this list and its helpful members around the globe, as well as a TW job that I like alot (in addition to the usual friends, family, health, etc.). Have a great day, all!
Regards,
Laura
