Subject:Are HTML help files of necessity flat? From:Ellen Vanrenen <ellen -dot- vanrenen -at- clear-technology -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Tue, 27 Nov 2001 12:45:51 -0700
Hello,
I am redoing our product's help system as a Microsoft HTML file in ForeHelp
Premier 2001.
The last help file I did was in WinHelp, except for making edits to the
current help system.
I now have a better understanding of dialog-level and field-level help (for
some reason, our field-level help shows up as dialog Help (I am researching
this).
What concerns me is that HTML help is by definition flat. I understand that
I can add a Browse sequence for the use of our clients as well as having a
list of topics for their review.
I don't see that I can have a secondary window or allow for two windows to
be open at once.
Is this the case?
We presently have a list of topics in no apparent order: a very linear
approach.
My question, then, is how can I layer an HTML Help file, except with links
that bring up related topics or informational blocks (procedural, conceptual
examples, reference) in the same large window?
Thank you for any suggestion you may offer on the structure of Microsoft
HTML Help.
