Someone posted a message using the phrase "darken the doors" in the sense
of leaving a place or closing the door, if I understood correctly. The
meaning is actually the reverse: to darken a door means to cast your shadow
on it, which means you're standing in front of it, knocking. The person
inside opens the door, sees you, then screams "Don't darken my door again!"
and slams it in your face.

(sorry, I couldn't resist) :-)
