I agree with Dick on this one. Warnings are
frequently necessary for reasons other than
design flaws.
Our software controls electric utility RTUs,
which are basically big switches that switch
the power grid. Flipping a live switch that
controls hundreds of kilovolts could cut power
to an entire metro area, cause millions of
dollars of equipment damage, or kill someone.
You can't see the RTUs from where the system
controllers are, so a warning is needed. If
I could use e-ink to make it flash fluorescent
red and yellow, I'd do that, too.
