I want to know how Microsoft prefers a first reference to Microsoft Windows
to be styled (when referring to Microsoft Windows in the generic sense, not
to any specific version). I've been trying to find an online version of the
Microsoft Manual of Style (to which I caught a couple of references in past
threads on Techwr-l, but no URL) but with no luck. Is there a URL? (Or could
someone who owns a copy possibly do me the favour of looking up "references
to Windows" and passing on the info?)

Ta muchly,

Unless stated otherwise, these opinions are mine, and mine alone. Apologies
for the long additional sig: it is added automatically and outwith my
control.
