Harry,

You might try getting a list of American companies/subsids in the region and pre-applying here in the states. There are several circumstances where an American company would prefer a US citizen writer over a foreign national, especially where English is the written language, or the technology area is "sensitive". In addition, you may be able to leverage your wife's position as an asset to the company. Given the patriotic fervor and terroristphobia (I just made that one up!) right now, many companies would opt to employ the spouse of a foreign service officer "in-country" over any other candidate.
