Career path? There's a career path?! Sure, you can become Lead Writer of
your team of 1. Then hey, you could be Documentation Manager--of your team
of 1. As long as they give you a raise!

LOL, I'm sorry, it's just that after 20 odd years of nearly always being the
lone writer--in company after company that downsizes, goes out of business,
or leaves town, I just can't help but laugh. My path has been mostly a
watery one, in the sense of treading water. As long as I have interesting
work and make decent money, I'm fine. And then there are those tedious long
patches of Dead Marshes in between.

The only path I've ever noticed for a writer is one that eventually leads
away from writing into things like web design, or programming ... or selling
vaccuum cleaners :) So it all depends on what you want to do, where you want
to go, and how much you want to put into getting there. I guess.
