Three words: Wear a suit.

I work in Florida, at a company with a casual dress code (khakis/golf
shirts, jeans on Friday). This means that if I'm interviewing you on a
Friday, I'll probably be wearing jeans and a Hawaiian shirt. The last
company I worked at here allowed us to wear whatever we wanted - shorts,
flipflops, etc.

But at both companies, any interviwees had better be wearing suits, or
we'd wonder how seriously they took the interview. It's just good manners.

I have heard that it's different for programmers (or developers, or
whatever they want to call themselves on a given day). But for a writing
gig, wear a suit. It won't kill you. And they're handy for weddings and
funerals, too.
