Most of the tech writing jobs I have done have been as a lone writer, often with no reviews of the work (just write it and send it out...). At one position, I was writing a help file for nurses that included very basic computer instructions. To illustrate a drop-down list, I used a list of names which included myself, my husband, Elvis Presley, and Joseph and Emma Smith as patients in a nursing home. I just hope someone enjoyed knowing that Elvis is still alive and in a nursing home somewhere!

Diane Evans, now a very lonely tech writer.
