I've frequently said on this list that starting as a lone writer taught me the profession very quickly. In less than a year, I had taken on responsibilities that a new writer on a team probably wouldn't have had for several years.

I can't help wondering: are other people's experiences like mine? Do they think that starting as a lone writer helped, or hindered them?
