This is a new one for me, which is saying a lot because I thought I had seen
almost every Word quirk. (I'm an expert at breaking things.)
I have a 47-page document of exciting things, such as a photo of the front
panel display of a large format printer. To label the buttons on the photo,
I've gone with a lovely mix of arrows and text. It's quite stunning.
However, when I print the document, one text box refuses to show itself.
Just that one. He's a loner. I thought, Michelle, you foxy genius, why not
delete the text box and give it another shot? That always works.
So, I gave it a try, and here comes the problem. When I attempt to delete
the text box, Windows 98 scolds Word for performing an illegal operation. I
went through the routine -- rebooted and all that jazz -- and I still get
that message. It's the only object I can't delete. The text box next to
it? Gone in a flash, with no muss or fuss. But that one? It won't go
away, and I've tried every logical solution.
The workaround was easy enough (slap a white rectangle and new text box over
it), but I'm curious as to why this happened. I checked MS's Knowledge
Base, but nothing directly applied to my problem. I asked the old timers,
and none of them have had this happen. Anyone have any ideas?
