TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
In performing this same function to USPTO with two
publications sized 800 - 1000 pages and 700 pages they
worked fine in Word. The master document function
works very well. It will separate the chapters with
one keystroke, maintains the formatting of the master
document, allows for combining sections, quarters,
halfs, whatever-and does so with ease. You can set
global parameters and follow those throughout your
chapters-there is no problem with Word on this.
As far as binding-the three ring binder was their road
to hoe-personally I would prefer hard binding.
Separates is another thought, although if it is under
1000 pages I like it all in one binder.
