This is so prevalent that I have caught myself saying it despite the fact
that I try not to fall into the traps of commercialization and inane word
use. 

I am very curious: Do you have tellers (you probably don't know) who say
"cent" instead of "cents", as in, "Here is seventeen dollars and fifty
cent."?

Who recently had to remove the word "correspond" from documentation of an
extremely complicated product because the users (payroll clerks, etc.) might
not know what the word means. Would you want people who do not know what
"correspond" means to be responsible for whether or not you are paid
correctly?

Number." Customers and front-line employees alike almost always say "PIN
Number."
