Interestingly, even though Pontius Pilate "washed his
hands" of Jesus's crucifixion -- despite his best
efforts to distance himself from that historical
moment -- it is his name whom Christians cite in the
Nicene Creed:

  "For our sake he was crucified under Pontius
Pilate;"

I have absolutely know idea what that means to a bunch
of technical writers who fear for their jobs.
