<Writing is the "beginning" point of a project.

Nay, Andrew. The beginning of the project is interviewing, researching,
whatever it takes to learn about the content and the intended audience. This
is what the technical writer does that goes beyond technical editing.

What does it matter, then, that some of the source material stemming from
that research is the scribbling of a SME?
