I cannot begin to list all the things I've learned thanks to TECHWRL. From elegant Word tips to great Web links, this list is a goldmine for me. Most of all I appreciate the exposure to so many different perspectives.
This is the only fishing tale I have that does not involve the actual catching of a fish: Several years ago I was on a pier on the Gulf of Mexico on a balmy spring day. A fishing buddy who was calling it a day pointed out a flounder to me, settled into the sand in about four feet of water. Usually it's impossible to see a flounder while standing on the pier in broad daylight (unless it's already been landed). They just blend into the sandy bottom but that day the water conditions were sublime -- calm and heartbreakingly clear. It was a big fish -- what they call a "doormat" flounder around here. I baited my hook, eased the minnow to the bottom and waited. No matter how lively the minnow was or how craftily I placed the bait, that damn flounder would not take it. I reeled in and dropped the bait closer. I tried moving it farther away. After awhile, I tried easing it right onto the flounder's head. For three hours I tried and failed to catch that fish. It never took t!
he bait.
I applaud Eric for his efforts as administrator and for the grace with which he responded to one especially presumptuous post yesterday.
Now, back to work, me.
