Carpel tunnel can also be caused by other things -- I was afflicted when I
was pregnant, and it is evidently a fairly common side-effect of pregnancy.
The hormones cause your joints to loosen, and ...
But what was exacerbating it was that I swam laps daily when I was pregnant
-- the drag on my hands from the water from the crawl reduced me to walking
the hall at night, weeping from pain (pregnant women don't take drugs).
Started working with a kickboard and breast stroke only, and the pain
subsided.
But I'm careful now -- I use a keyboard tray -- let those heroic young
programmers work with their keyboards on the tops of their desks -- I'm here
for the long haul.
But watch out for keyboard shortcuts when you are left-handed. My
right-handed co-workers have told me about these "wonderful" shortcuts that
have increased their productivity about 15%. For me, all right-hand
shortcuts are speed traps. My right hand doesn't work that well.
I believe this is true for most lefties. If we had decent right-hand
coordination, our parents would have made us right-handed.

his right.
