TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
OK, so I'm a little late. Forgive me, I've got a looming deadline next
week, and haven't kept up on my digest. But I couldn't resist this survey,
it's great. My responses:
Most-used reference books:
---At work: Newton's Telecom Dictionary (it's a great read even if you
don't have a word to look up, honest!)
---At home: Roget's Thesaurus. Nothing online can beat this baby.
Kind(s) of writing I do:
---during the day: software manuals, single-sourced for online help and PDF
documentation. (and lots of email, of course)
---evenings and weekends: fiction, both short and long; an occasional foray
into the Bulwer-Lytton contest, which I've never won; occasional articles
on astrology and tarot for local periodicals.
I'm definitely a cat person, but just last week I realized I must have a
dog. Am I going through a phase, or finally finding myself?
"Everywhere I go, I'm asked if the universities stifle writers. My opinion
is that they don't stifle enough of them."
--Flannery O'Connor
