| Does single sourcing only mean writing in one
| medium and outputting in exactly two media (print and online)?
Correct, except that there can be more than two output formats. For
example, you could create as body of content and, from it, produce
printed books, PDFs, HTML Help, and HTML for the web.
| Or does
| it mean storing a chunk of text and reusing it as needed in any
medium?
Some single source tools (like AuthorIT) work this way, but a database
solution is not implicit in the term "single sourcing."
| Umm, I guess I know the answer to that. It means the former, and the
| second description applies to content management systems. But of
course
| content management systems don't really answer my needs, either.
If it's any comfort, you're by no means alone in facing this conundrum.
