For a quick course and a quick read, try The Non-Designer's Design Book by Robin
Williams (no, not *that* Robin Williams). Ms. Williams explains, simply, and
with lots of visual examples, the hows, whys, and why nots of designing hard
copy layouts. She may have written a book on designing for the Web too, but I
don't know for sure.
