I don't know if I'm responding too late, but ... I would like to add to Geoff's comments and suggest that you begin the lesson with badly written instructions for a product with which they are most likely unfamiliar -- but for a real product nonetheless. I find that many DTP options in Word are much more advanced than your average computer guys bother to know, so you could invent bad instructions for that kind of stuff. As a former teacher and a current writer, I find that offering bad instructions for students to fix can be very useful. HOWEVER, I typically begin my class by instructing what is good first, and then as an advanced review demanding that they find the "errors".

Good luck.
