Something came up this morning (Monday morning already, ack) about
terminology for naming documents at different stages of the development
process. The discussion was really a disguised version of the argument about
when a doc is "done." I wanted the document to be more than a "draft"
because that didn't convey how much work had gone into it and how clean it
was at this point. He suggested "preliminary version." What do you call a
manual that has been fully edited, reviewed (albeit briefly and quickly) by
developers, and ready to enter QA and subsequent reviews? Do you have
different names to describe a doc as it moves through the process? (sub
question - do you use the term "final draft"? seems like an oxymoron to me)
BTW, I just ordered a copy of Hackos "Managing..." this morning. I've got to
get a better handle on this process. I work for a company with a very weak
tech pubs department and I'm trying to change corporate culture in my own
small way...
