Subject:Screenshot degradation when copying from Word From:Alan Alda <alan4077alda -at- yahoo -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Fri, 5 Apr 2002 10:17:06 -0800 (PST)
Hi all,
I would like to thank everyone who responded to my
"click or click on" query a couple of days back. There
were some very interesting dicussions in the thread
and I have saved those in my "great references" list.
Anyway, heres the current problem: We have to convert
a Word doc to RoboHelp (tried using the new feature in
RoboHelp 2002 for importing a word doc directly, but
the results required considerable re-work). There are
a lot of screenshots in our .doc file. The procedure I
follow is to copy a topic from the long word doc,
paste it in a new word doc.(as html), save that topic
as .html. Then, I use Microsoft's HTML filter to
convert it to "pure" HTML. This procedure works fine
and generates considerably clean HTML. However, the
quality of the screenshots in the resultant "pure"
HTML degrades so much that we simply cannot use those
screenshots (the screenshots look fine on screen, but
they look *bad* when printed). So heres whats going
on: when I save the file as HTML in word, it
(apparently) uses VML to encode the screenshots (or
any image, for that matter). However, VML is IE
specific; so we want to remove it. When the VML is
removed using the HTML filter, the quality of the
image degrades.
I am led to believe from searching the archives that
such problems are common, but I could not find any
solution to the problem. We will have to take all the
screenshots again if nothing works out, and that will
involve 10 days of work. Hence, I am quite desperate
for a solution to this problem.
Any suggestions will be *highly* appreciated.
Thank you,
Alan.
ps: I am on a digest so if you could please send me a
copy of your post..
