In my case it was a BS and PhD in biology followed by 7 years in academia
before I discovered computers.

But yes, white papers give writers a chance to be intellectual and creative
- as well as just being technical. This is why no one has thought to write
'how-to' books. Writing them treated as a 'perk' not a chore.
